Nothing like a couple quiet minutes while filling up the tank. Especially when premium costs less than $2/gallon.

Wish the ground weren't covered in snow right now so I could get some 91 for the Z..but getting some dirt cheap 85 octane for my winter beater isn't bad either, lol

You call 91 Octane "Premium?" I'd have to add two bottles of Octane Boost to get mine to start.

What Mr2 do you have? Looking for a new car now... And post-94 Mr2 turbo are nice (240hp here in Japan)... But how do you like it when the rear gets loose?
Don't have much experience, if any at all, with mid-engine cars...

Cheap premium is the greatest. 93 is hovering right at 2.15/gallon right now and I couldn't be happier!

Atcually, 91 ignites easier. You'd need octane booster for it to not knock ;).

I'm glad I don't have to put up with that.

Mine is a stock '91 turbo with nearly 200k miles. At the end of this month I'll have owned it for 5 years. As with any vehicle if you learn the limits of the car in a safe manner and pay attention to your surroundings/road surface you'll be fine. It's been a wonderfully reliable car and I always enjoy driving it; that said, I don't push the car too hard on the streets but it does rotate quickly when you break traction.

I'd love to run a beater through the winter but the MR2 manages for the time being

To the best of my knowledge the gas stations that carry 93 locally (Kansas) are pretty limited. Fortunately 91 is what my car needs and what is avaliable.

Indeed, I might have some receipts stored from $40+ fill ups!

From my records the last time I payed >$3/gallon was on November 11th of last year at $3.04/gallon. How things have changed in a couple short months!

when i saw 87/89/91 in your post i though, "where in California is gas that cheap?!?" Then I read the comments and see you're in Kansas - I thought us here in CA were the only poor saps limited to premium being 91 octane. as far as I know, 91 is pretty much the top in CA - no 93 octane sold anywhere. A couple of years ago I had a Porsche Cayman to play with for a weekend and it asked for 93 octane fuel, though it would settle for 91 (but sacrificing power/mpg in the process).
I do know a local (Pasadena) gas station that sells 100 octane racing gas at about $10 bucks a gallon. Hmmm... I wonder if that one has also come down in price along with the cheaper octanes...

Around here (Topeka area), the only stations that carry 93 are BP.. Maybe they've got it down there, as well?

I filled my car with 91 ONCE Pinged, knocked, missfired like a mother fucker.....
I basically idled it around to drain out gas on it, then ran some Cam2 at a half tank and then back to 93

Thanks, I plan on keeping mine stock but a 4th gen swap would be my number one option if I started modding. I can't wait to see a post with your 2!

That sounds about right, I'm not positive though. We don't have too many BPs down here.

I'd think that with a few exceptions modern cars are advanced enough to make adjustments depending on what octane rated fuel they're given, I'd love to drive something meant to run on 100, especially if I didn't have to pay the gas bill, haha.

Sadly mister is plenty dirty thanks to all the snow we'd gotten but as soon as temps get above freezing I'll be outside making it look presentable!

yes and no - the cars I've driven have stated engine knocking and reduced performance/MPG as outcomes of going to an octane lower than preferred.
I'd also like to experience a 100 octane car. Heck, I'm not even sure the current Lambos and Ferraris run on 100? maybe a Pagani or Veyron?
